14-Sep-2008 -- We had intended to do three confluences in one day. Well, by the time we were in Caribou, it was dark. We took the wrong turn and headed out toward Canada on Rt 189. We realized our mistake after only a mile or two, but it was really the straw that broke the camel's back. We were both tired. It was almost 8 pm. We decided to go back to Presque Isle and get a hotel room and shack up for the night. We wound up staying at the Presque Isle Inn. It was pretty expensive for what we got, but we were tired and didn't feel like driving around looking for another room.

In the morning, we went to the local Wal-mart where there was a Web-cam cache that we needed to do. What you do is stand in front of the web cam while an accomplice captures the image on their computer. We called our friends, the Frosts in Oakland, Maine. They were all to happy to oblige in this endeavor. That done, we made our way north to find the last confluence of the weekend.

We made our way up Rt 1 until we were about 8 or 9 miles past Caribou. We found the Sheen Rd and then the Cote Rd and the turn up towards the confluence. There is an old US Government facility there on the left and a big open field on the right. The confluence is about 100 meters (or so) out into the field. We parked right on the 47th parallel and walked out into the field until we were zeroed in. This was the easiest so far! No trees to walk around and no branches to poke you in the eyes while you are wandering around concentrating on the GPS! We took our pictures and then made our way back to the car.

Back at the car, we prepared another cache and stashed it in the woods to the left of the access road. It is directly behind a large poplar tree under a pile of rocks right on the 47th parallel. Sign the log and replace it as you found it please.
