Estávamos no município de Salgueiro. Já havíamos planejado visitar um ponto de confluência lá perto, pois verificamos que a primeira tentativa não foi completada. A região do município de Salgueiro fica no sertão de Pernambuco, em área de caatinga densa, torna-se, assim, bem difícil adentrar nela. Escolhemos a semana posterior ao Natal.

No dia 26/12 partimos para nossa conquista, além do Julio, o pai dele também nos acompanhou, o Sr. Waldomiro, que ficou bem curioso com o projeto. Decidimos ir ao final da tarde, por causa do sol forte e saímos por volta das 16:00 hrs da cidade de Salgueiro. Seguimos de carro por 16,5 Km até o acesso à cidade de Verdejante, pois achávamos que seria o melhor caminho, já que o GPS nos dava, da rodovia uma distância da confluência de 2,4 Km.

Chegamos àquela estrada e logo no início identificamos uma cerca de arame farpado, do lado esquerdo da pista, que poderia nos levar bem próximo ao ponto. Seguimos pela cerca, fomos munidos de uma foice para ajudar com os arbustos. Mesmo junto à cerca era um pouco complicado andar, muitos arranhões! Acabou a cerca com uns 15 minutos de caminhada e só nos restou a caatinga à nossa frente, decidimos seguir em frente, seguindo a orientação do GPS.

Como estávamos preparados para o pior, não achamos tão ruim a incursão, fomos no livrando dos galhos, mas à tardinha já ia caindo e logo escureceria. Andamos por cerca de 40 minutos e resolvemos voltar, não iria dar tempo de chegarmos ao ponto com luz do dia, ademais meu tênis já estava incomodando um bocado! Retornamos, dessa vez olhando pela rodovia se não haveria um outro acesso e bingo! Achamos o que poderia ser uma estrada de terra estreita, marcamos um ponto, pois era bem sutil no meio da caatinga. Mais adiante havia uma porteira de uma propriedade, também seria uma opção. Julio lembrou que tinha uma imagem de satélite Spot 5 da área e resolvemos que era melhor usar desse recurso, pois dava medo de olhar aquela mata de caatinga tão fechada.

No dia seguinte, verificamos a imagem e vimos que realmente aquela estrada de terra nos levaria bem próximo ao ponto. No dia 28/12, resolvemos que seria o grande dia. Saímos por volta das 07:30 da manhã e seguimos até a estrada de terra, com a ajuda do GPS, ficava a 13 Km mais ou menos da cidade. Seria fácil, pois a estrada nos levaria bem perto do ponto, conforme tínhamos visto na imagem de satélite.

Ao chegarmos lá nos deparamos com outra realidade: a estrada havia sido interrompida por uma cerca de madeira, típicas do interior do estado, não havia como o carro passar. Daquele local o GPS indicava 1,6 Km até o ponto de confluência. Não havia outro jeito senão seguir a pé. E lá fomos, passsamos por uma cerca lateral de arame farpado e nos deparamos com a estrada do outro lado, aberta, com muitas pedras soltas, mas que daria para passar um veículo – uma pena aquela bloqueio.

Á medida que andávamos a estrada ora se afunilava, com a vegetação invadindo-a, ora se alargava. O aparelho nos indicava 37 minutos de caminhada, já que nossa velocidade era de 3 km/h. Á medida que caminhávamos sentíamos que a topografia variava, ao que tudo indicava tínhamos um fundo de vale para atravessar à nossa esquerda, já que optamos por seguir pela estrada e somente adentrar na caatinga quando estivéssemos em uma direção perpendicular ao ponto. Dessa forma andamos cerca de 20 minutos, quando o GPS nos indicou a direção, aproximadamente 200 metros mata adentro.

Desse ponto em diante tínhamos que entrar na caatinga, até então tinha sido fácil. Lá fomos nós, Julio à frente agora com o GPS, Sr, Waldomiro em seguida com a foice e eu em seguida, com máquina fotográfica e água. Foi a parte mais difícil, mas não impossível, se estivéssemos com roupas de manga comprida não teríamos tantos arranhões, mas estava quente. Seguimos pela mata, fizemos o máximo para não descer para o fundo de vale, deveria ter uns 30 metros, bem inclinados, mas não houve jeito, era o caminho. Os mesmo galhos que nos arranhavam nos ajudavam como apoio nas descidas e subidas, estávamos bem perto; o GPS indicava 7 metros! Chegamos a 3 metros, era por ali.

Para nossa surpresa uma pequena clareira na mata; pensamos que ótimo, perfeito! Havia galhos secos, contrastando com o verde da mata, pois havia chovido na região há menos de duas semanas e logo a caatinga antes cinza transformara-se em um verde intenso, mostrando que há vida no sertão. Ás 08: 43 (am) o GPS nos deu a tão esperada coordenada: S 08º00´00” e W 39º00´00”. Conseguimos! Que satisfação enorme. Ficamos agradecidos pela existência desse Projeto. Fizemos as fotografias do aparelho com a coordenada e também com tela da bússola, além da área, direções norte, oeste, sul e leste, respectivamente.

Em uma árvore próxima, á uns 5 metros mais ou menos, gravamos com a foice o nosso feito, somente os números 8º e 39º, pois não era a ferramenta mais apropriada. Registramos em fotografia a nossa equipe, brindamos com água e fizemos um pequeno filme do local ainda com a máquina. Hora do retorno - foi mais fácil, voltamos por um lugar mais próximo para estrada de terra, observamos melhor a vegetação, muitos cumpizeiros nas árvores, cactos, solo da estrada com rochas cortadas como se fossem por máquinas. We were in the city of Salgueiro. We already had planned to visit a point of confluence close, and verify that the first attempt was not successfully visited. The region of the city of Salgueiro is in the hinterland of Pernambuco, in a difficult to get in. We choose the week subsequent to Christmas.

In day 26/12 we leave for our conquest, with Julio and Waldomiro, that was very curious with the project. We decide to go to the end of the afternoon, because of the strong sun and leave for return 16:00 hrs to Salgueiro city. We follow by car for 16,5 km until the access to Verdejante city, where we found that it would be the optimum way, because the GPS gave us a distance from a road to the confluence of 2,4 km.

We arrive at that road and soon at the beginning we identify one barbed fence, at the left side of the track, that could in taking us well next to our target. Exactly next to the fence it was a little complicated to walk, many scratches! It finished the fence with one 15 minutes of walked and alone in them it remained scrubland to our front, we decide to follow ahead, according to GPS indications.

As we were prepared for worse, we do not find the incursion so bad, but it was almost sun set. We walk for about 40 minutes and decide to come back, would not have time to go and arrive at the point with daylight, and in addition my tennis already was bothering a bit! So we return, this time looking for the road if it would not have one another access and bingo! We find what it could be a narrow dirty road and we mark a point. More ahead it had a gate to a property, also would be an option. Julio remembered that he had an image of satellite Spot 5 for the area and we decide that was better to use of this resource, therefore gave fear looking at that area so closed by bushes.

The next day, we verify the image and we saw that really that dirty road in would take us very close to the point. In day 28/12, we decide that it would be the great day. We set off at 07:30 am and continue to the dirty road, with the aid of the GPS, located at 13 km more or less from the city. It would be easy, therefore the road in would take us very close to the point, as we had seen in the satellite image.

When we arrived back, another reality came up: the road had been interrupted by a wooden fence, typical of the interior of the state, that let the car to pass. There the GPS indicated 1,6 km to the confluence point. The only way to continue was by walk so we started our hiking and we went around and crossed the barbed fence. On this side we found a dirty road with some stones but not difficult at all. Unfortunately, the road was blocked by that wooden fence.

While we walked ahead on the road, the vegetation on it was more dense and practically the path start to be difficult. The next 37 minutes we advance at just 3 km/h. While we walked we felt that the topography was changing, we had at our left hand a valley so the best way to go was going ahead on our path up to we were perpendicular to CP where we go inside the bushes. We walked about 20 minutes, when the GPS in them indicated the direction, approximately 200 meters to CP.

Up to now everything have been easy, but from here to CP there were only bushes. There we were, Julio to the front now with the GPS, Mr. Waldomiro after that with the scythe and I after that, with camera and water. It was the most difficult part, but not impossible, if we were with long sleeve clothes we would not have as many scratches, but it was hot. We follow the bush, we made the maximum not to go down on the deep valley, that must have around 30 meters, good inclined. We grab the twigs to help us as support in the descending and ascents. We were well close; the GPS indicated 7 meters! later 3 meters, that was the way.

For our surprise we found a small bare place in the bush; It had dry twigs, contrasting with the green of the bush, it had been raining in the region less than two weeks and soon the bushes turned from gray into an intense green, showing that there is life in the hinterland. At 08:43 (am) GPS gave us the coordinate: S 08º00´00” and W 39º00´00”. We got it! What a great satisfaction. We are been thankful for the existence of this Project. We also made photographs of the device with the coordinate and with screen of the compassing, beyond the area, directions north, west, south and east, respectively.

In a next tree, at 5 meters more or less, we record with the scythe, only the numbers 8º and 39º. We register in photograph our team, drink a toast with water and we still made a short film of the place with the camera. It is time to return - it was easier, we come back for a place next toward land road, we observe the vegetation, many trees, cactus, the road with cut rocks by machines. It was valid!
