10-Sep-2001 -- Delay generates delay that’s how the submission of this confluence visit is delayed by 8 years.
At the end of one of our holidays in France and in the beginning of our “confluence hunting” we searched 50°N 2°E. The confluence is halfway between Amiens and Abbeville, south of the river Somme. The Somme here doesn’t look like a river; it is a concatenation of pond like waters in a wide valley.
The Confluence is some km South of the Somme in an agricultural field situated in a higher area. The local road D70 passes by at about 75 m. As there was no crop I could enter the field and got the desired no minutes, no seconds reading. My GPS looks very new compared to how it looks now in 2009.
The images of the confluence area show the field in all directions.
Some 700m North on the D70 I stopped and made a view over the valley of river Airaines that flows through the village Longpré-les-Corps-Saints into the Somme. This view characterises much more the area than the photographs taken from the confluence.
Also in this area you find everywhere the cemeteries of World War I victims, like the small one another 200m to the North.
