11-Nov-2009 -- We set off from Chiangmai to go to Nan for a visit to the unvisited N19E101. By taking the southern route, that brought us close to N18E100. From our Google map printout we saw that the cp was only a couple of kilometers from our route, road 101. The printout indicated a local road almost straight to the cp. Well, that road did not exist, it was most likely a border between local administrations. But we found the same starting point as the first visitors and parked in a shade near the same railway bridge. On the way to the cp we followed a track along the rails for the first 400 meters and and the rails the next 200 m. The cp was also on our GPS about 30 m into the thicket. About 15 m from the actual point we faced a wall of nasties, thorny creepers that hug your arms, body and legs and won't let go. So we took the relevant N, S, E and W photos at that point where you could see something of the surroundings. We then found a way around and through the nasties and took the photos at zero zero. There it did not make much sense taking the other photos into the green wall just a few meters away.

The return to the car was on the rails of the Bangkok - Chiangmai line. An easy visit.

On our continued journey to Nan we stopped in the old part of Prae, a charming peaceful little town. We visited Vongburi House which was built more than a hundred years ago in a unique Thai-English style by a wealthy forest concessionary. Outside, the building is decorated with lace-like wood carving, and inside nothing seems to have been changed since it was built. You even find contracts for the purchase of slaves and elephant identity papers and family history. Members of the family still live there and willingly show visitors around. Worth a visit!
