11-Oct-2011 -- This would be the seventh of eleven confluence visits on a trip to Colorado coming from 36N 106W.
For this visit, I stopped just north of the NM-CO border along US-285. The confluence was 113 meters directly west from where I stopped. I had to find a break in a snow drift fence and when I reached the confluence, I found two small cairns, my Trimble Juno agreed with southern one so that is where I collected data. In the distance I could see snow on the mountains. It was a very quiet place with only one or two cars driving by while I was out of my vehicle.
Pathfinder Office Post Processing reduced 550 data points from my Trimble Juno to an average position of 36° 59’ 59.99572”N, 106° 00’ 00.02506”W with a horizontal precision of 1.9 meters and an altitude of 2449.323 meters with a vertical precision of 1.2 meters.
From where I parked along US-285, it was an 450 meter and 25 minute round trip with 15 minutes at the confluence and the rest of the time finding an optimum place to cross the snow fence.
This confluence is very easy to reach, I still can’t believe it had been 10 years since the previous visit!
The adventure continues at 37N 104W.
