13-Oct-2011 -- We live in Mikkeli and my spouse had to visit Varpala near Savonlinna about 130 km from our home. Varpala is the training unit for natural resources studies.
I noticed that the 62,29 confluence was about 10 km away from Varpala and suggested that I come with her as a chauffeur and we shall visit also the confluence.
My spouse manages the project in which is being researched how institutional kitchens can utilize local lake fish, that is usually considered useless like bream and roach, instead of imported bulk fish products. In Varpala there is a unit that teaches students to process fish for food industry and they tested how to make boneless minced fish meat out of 200 kilos of bream. A catch of a nearby lake.
After my spouse had done with her duties with Samiedu at Varpala we headed off to the confluence. We got with us couple of kilo specimens of minced bream packed in ice for analyzing and test food production in Mikkeli.
It was nice autumn weather and landscape was full of ruska (autumn leaf colors). It took about twenty minutes and we were near the spot. We walked the last couple of hundred of meters along the typical private road leading to the summer cottage, checking the digits in two GPS phones. We got along the road to south direction crossing the N62 line. Navigator indicated that E29 line goes at that point some ten meters west from road just as the map tells. We walked into forest and after some zig zags spotted exact readings. Forest here is typical Finnish cultivated timberland. There grows young spruce trees at confluence point. Forest has been made more sparse some years ago in order to get trees grow faster and bigger for the use in forest industry. North from confluence there is an area where just young birch grow.
About 30 meters East from confluence there is a narrow strait that connects two lakes. Waters here seem to be eutrophic and suitable also for breams.
This confluence is very easy to reach, you can get by car ten meters from it. After taking the pictures we got back to car and started way back to Mikkeli with our catch.
