08-Oct-2000 -- It was a
dark and stormy night swiftly pursued by a dark and stormy
Sunday morning. The first of our intrepid explorers (Erik) geared up
bright and early (9:30am) and headed west from his home base of Albany
New York to rendezvous with the second intrepid explorer (Tom) who just
happened to live in Ilion a few miles from the elusive confluence point.
Arriving in Ilion just in time to catch largest downpour of the day,
Erik taunted Tom's cat (Rascal) with a laser pointer for all too
brief a time and then the team headed out to conquer 43N 75W.
Leaving their car by the side of the road the brave explorers headed into
the rain drenched undergrowth for a mile long hike through tall grass,
along muddy overgrown back roads and various plantlife with rather
sharp thorns.
Within minutes four previously warm and dry feet were soaked and cold but
the team continued on without complaint (well, maybe a little bit
of complaining), their goal overriding any physical discomfort.
The gully strewn landscape prevented a direct approach so the team
circled stealthily around their prey to approach from an unexpected
direction. As the team entered an overgrown farm field the White tailed
deer guarding the confluence point quickly realized he was no match
dedicated confluence seekers and abandoned his post, bounding off into
the woods.
The confluence was discovered to be located in one of a number of overgrown,
though apparently not completely abandoned, farm fields surrounded by woods
with sometimes dense undergrowth.
As the team headed back to their car the overcast grey sky began to breakup
revealing what would soon turn into sunny afternoon.
