06-Jun-2012 -- This would be the eleventh of twelve successful visits on a clockwise loop east of Colorado Springs continuing from 38N 101W.
I spent the night along River Road at a parking area for wilderness viewing that was 3 km due north of the confluence. At sunrise I drove another 1 km further south and parked by the bend in the road. I hiked along a barbed wire fence line until it disappeared and continued south. About 94 meters away, I came upon an east-west fence line that made a corner and headed south. The confluence is just west of this fence in scrub. The descendants of the grasshoppers mentioned by Joseph Kerski 5 years ago were out in force.
At the confluence I began collecting data and taking pictures. Two large grain elevator complexes are visible to the north. A windmill is visible off to the east. In the distance was the rhythmic grunting of a cow in distress.
Picture #6 shows a TerraSync screen shot on the left captured at the confluence and the resulting Pathfinder Office post processed GPS data on the right.
Picture #9 is a cylindrical panoramic QuickTime Virtual Reality movie. You can interactively zoom in and out throughout the image when displayed.
My final goal for this eastern confluence adventure was 38N 103.
