19-Apr-2013 -- VISIT TO 19 SOUTH, 22 EAST IN NGAMILAND, BOTSWANA, ABOUT 40 km NORTH-WEST OF GUMARE.

By way of preparation we printed out several ‘maps’ from Google-Earth to show us the details of the tracks to use to arrive near our degree confluence point 19S 22E. We departed from Maun in a north-westerly direction on Wednesday 19 April 2013 at about 6 a.m.

We drove the tarred road from Maun to Gumare and proceeded about 18 km beyond Gumare towards Etsha at which point we took the gravel/sand track to Nxauxau. About 19 km along this track took us to the cutline/firebreak which we then followed in a northerly direction for 20 kilometers driving slowly due to the deep sand of the dunes and the overgrown character of the track.

We easily found the confluence point which was located only 50 meters from the track. We used our GPSs to define the exact location of the Confluence and took photos in all directions around the point.

The area is characterized by fossil linear sand dunes with tall grass and bush in the interdune portions and woody tree species on the dune summits.

The confluence point is located about 50 meters west of a north-south running cutline or firebreak that was overgrown with tall grass and bushes up to 1.5 meters.
