05-May-2013 -- Comments: On the road by 5:30am from my camping spot in Kenton, OK to head toward this one, my seventh of ten confluences in Eastern Colorado in two days. Slightly waylaid by an impressive elk stampede across 456 in New Mexico (which also has the oddest sequence of paved/unpaved sections of any road I've ever driven on). Drove almost into Trinchera but took a sharp left onto CR 125.7 after the tracks to arrive within 100 meters of the site. I didn't end up reaching all GPS zeros on this one however due to the persistent 'friendliness' of the cattle in this valley. I tried to lead them elsewhere along the road in the car and then zoom back to have enough time to run to the site, but they would instantly come charging back to interact. I'm pretty sure their intentions were friendly, but I didn't want to find out (especially after my close moose encounter at 39N, 109W last week) and so only managed to make it within 250 ft of the confluence (76 m) before having to dart back to the car. Didn't have time for a GPS photo or a success self-shot. Will try to return to this one in the future to truly zero out the GPS, because even though the distance requirement was met I still don't feel quite right claiming this as a true success.
Time arrived: 7:06a
Temperature: 35 deg. F
Parking location: CR 125.7
