11-Oct-2014 -- This would be our second confluence of the day. Following 32N 108W, we took US-180 North from Deming to US-152 then Hwy 35 and entered the Gila National Forest and found a parking area just north of McKnight Road here. There were a couple of other vehicles with ATV trailers already parked there. We unloaded our ATVs once again and would simply ride up a dirt road in the narrow Mimbres Canyon all the way to the confluence.

Recent rains earlier in the week and earlier in the day had water running in the Mimbres River. The dirt road followed the river and would cross it dozens of times before we reached the confluence. Luckily, the water was usually less than a foot deep and was easily traversed by ATV.

We were tentative at first but very clear fast running water in a stream bed of mostly sand and small gravel made for relatively fast travel and would result in a lot of fun on our return trip!

We found the confluence just to the east of the double track in a stand of conifers. We stopped about 10 meters away on the trail that was blocked by a downed tree that is clearly visible in the GoogleEarth imagery dated 4/1/2015 and is also visible in the left side of my Picture #3.

Total round trip time and distance from where we parked was 2.25 hours and 14.6 km with about 20 minutes spent at the actual confluence. Post processing of the GPS data reveals that the spot where my Trimble recorded positions was 2.1 meters west of the actual confluence with a horizontal precision of 2.7 meters.

What a great confluence adventure!
