03-Aug-2013 -- This confluence lies only 10 km from Jagga Jagga, an abandoned community on the Kiwirrkurra-Balgo Road.
The countryside is predominantly spinifex and acacia on laterite plains and the occasional lineal dune. There are cut line crossing the area but these are very overgrown and the going is often easier off track than on. This is harsh country and your vehicle must be well prepared for any eventuality.
This was a relatively straight forward run negotiating a cut line from Jagga Jagga airfield and then a cross line to the South. The confluence site is only several hundred metres from the old survey line.
Permission to travel this country must be obtained from the Ngururrpa people. No formal permit system exists and permission must be obtained by writing to Central Desert Native Title Services in Perth (www.centraldesert.org.au.) Our group had permission to travel this area and into the Stansmore Range to the East of Yagga Yagga. This is extremely remote and inhospitable country and you must be an experienced and well equipped outback traveller. Emergency communications such as a satphone or HF radio are essential.
