05-Jun-2015 -- This point was just my second degree confluence point - way back in October 1999. Because this was so long ago and before the end of Selective Availability, I thought it was time to revisit it, in hopes of getting ‘all zeros’, and better photos.

After first visiting neighboring 37N 120W - in the Central Valley - I climbed steeply up into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, passing by Shaver Lake. At this point I drove through a summer thunderstorm, which fortunately stopped as I continued driving towards Wishon Reservoir. Nonetheless, the temperature had dropped by almost 50 degrees Fahrenheit - from the low-90s down in the valley (close to sea level) to the mid-40s up here (at more than 7000 feet elevation).

After passing by the McKinley Grove of Giant Sequoias, I continued along Dinkey Creek Road, towards Wishon Reservoir. At about 119 West, a dirt road heads south towards the point, ending (blocked by boulders) about ¼ mile from the point. From there it was an easy hike through the forest to the point, which lies on a forested hillside covered with pine needles (and the occasional boulder). This hillside is not far from a clearing at the top of a hill; this is where I registered a successful visit during my previous visit, almost 16 years before.

To date only two other people have recorded a visit to this point. This is a bit surprising, because the point is quite easy to reach, and is not particularly remote. It is only a roughly 2-hour detour for anyone driving to Yosemite National Park from the San Francisco or Los Angeles areas. Plus, the McKinley Grove is a worthwhile stop en route.
