(visited by Hugh Knight and John Crawford)

21-Oct-2014 -- This CP was the first that John Crawford and myself did on a trip through the Pila Nguru or Spinifex Peoples lands. Armed with the necessary permits we headed for Warburton were we turned right and on to Surveyor Generals Corner.

After the Corner with its two survey posts 150 metres apart, it was back along the Mulga Park road to the Business Road and then 150 km down to the CP. A few kilometres before the CP area, we entered the Pila Nguru Lands and it was in this area that we photographed some of the splendid breakaway country.

We camped on the Business Road which was a narrow graded dirt road running approximately 320 km from the Mulga Park Rd through Ilkurlka (Anne Beadell Highway) and 130 km further south to the Tjuntjuntjara Community. The next morning we drove for a bit over 5kms through spinifex and sand dunes to reach the CP. The sand dunes are the brown lines on the map photo and we were fortunate that they weren't too high or close. After doing the CP it was back to the track/road and on south 170 km to Ilkurlka.

The Anne Beadell Highway is in fact a 1300 km two-wheel dirt track from Laverton in Western Australia to Coober Pedy in South Australia and it runs through the middle of the Pilu Nguru Lands. Ilkurlka which is owned and run by the Pilu Nguru Community is the only stopover and refuelling point on the track (highway) and it is regarded as the most remote settlement in Australia, being 800 km from Kalgoorlie, the nearest town with supplies and fuel.

From Ilkurlka it was an 90 km drive south down to the new Wanna Lakes road.
