#1: To the South

(visited by Hugh Knight and John Crawford)

23-Oct-2014 -- This was the last of the four proposed CP,s for this trip and it was potentially the most challenging. Being approximately 30 km west of the Business Road and not serviced by any tracks, it required 60 km of bush bashing.

That morning we had driven 215 km west from the State Border, and on arrival at the Business Road we ventured into the scrub and late that afternoon we arrived at the CP. We camped at the CP and started the 80-km trek to Tjuntjuntjara next morning.

This trip was typical of remote CP's with both vehicles receiving 5 or six punctures as a result of stakes in the sand dune country and limestone which we encountered further south on the Nullarbor Plain.

Tjuntjuntjara is an Aboriginal Community on the northern edge of the Nullarbor Plain and is home for approximately 300 people. This is the main settlement and headquarters for the Pila Nguru Lands which cover 55,000 square kilometers.
