25-Oct-2015 -- Back in south-western US to attend the ASA 2015 annual meeting in San Diego to present results from our team. As usual I saved a few days for a touristic round trip in California, Utah, and Arizona. We choose to visit the 4 CP close to our itinerary : 35N 117W, 37N 113W, 36N 112W, 36N 111W.
This is the 10th attempt on 36N 112W and as 8 of the previous visitors we stood on the south rim of the Grand Canyon and wondered how it could have been even possible to succeed! It would at least necessitate a day long hike and certainly some ropes to secure the progression.
We started the hike from the Grand View Trail parking and followed the south rim westward figuring that we could reach the confluence scrambling down from the rim. At some point we hit a mule deer herd that was barely visible through the woods. We decided to make a large south detour until the road 64 then walk westward again on the road shoulder and ultimately head north along the 112W longitude line. We approached the point as close as 184 meters staying on the south rim because any attempt in hiking down to the point seemed too hazardous.
We really wish that we could have a new chance to try to reach the point in a more prepared attempt in the future!
