12-May-2017 -- This ‘forgotten’ Degree Confluence Point had been visited only once before, way back in October 2000. While driving from Saint Louis to Kansas City, I decided to try to visit it for a second time.
From satellite imagery (plus the report from the previous visitors), it was clear that - although the point lay only a short distance north of "road Dd" - the difficulty would be crossing the creek that passes between the point and the road. I parked on "road Dd" at 38.99657°N 93.00497°W, and hiked north through a farm field, alongside the trees and creek to the east. My goal was to find a good way to cross the creek. Unlike the previous visitors, however, I wasn’t able to cross the creek. The ground at the side of the creek was very soft and slippery (from recent rains), and I slipped over a couple of times, merely walking close to the bank. It seemed likely that if I were to try wading across the creek, I might slip and drown my camera.
By walking along the western side of the creek, however, I was able to get 290 feet (+/- GPS error of 21 feet) west of the point. This (89 m) was barely close enough to count as a successful visit.
