17-Июн-2017 -- Литва – одно из десяти государств, по чьей территории пролегла Дуга Струве. Из 34 пунктов списка Всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО три находятся здесь. Один из этого трио – пункт рядом с деревней Мешкониц (лит. Meškonys). Данный пункт не относится к числу основных – так называемых «обсерваторий», которых всего 13. Думаю, в одном из будущих отчетов стоит рассказать подробнее о том, чем обсерватории отличаются от обычных пунктов триангуляции. Но вот этот как раз обычный.

Добраться сюда можно по дороге А13, от которой пункт находится всего в километре. Его координаты – 54°56′N 25°19′E.

Предваряет памятное место деревянный информационный щит. На разных языках рассказано о Дуге и ее создателях.

В ста метрах далее находится предмет рассказа – гранитный обелиск и каменная оградка за ним. Обелиск – это знак ЮНЕСКО. А оградка установлена вокруг главного компонента пункта – геодезической метки. На оградке имеется выцветшая табличка на литовском языке с основной информацией о данном пункте.

Но вот саму метку просто так увидеть не получится. Она скрыта от глаз массивной защитной крышкой из чугуна. Однако если обратиться к ресурсам, посвященным Дуге, то можно найти изображения метки. Как, например, фото с открытия памятника. Метка пункта Мешканцы представляет собой круглую медную табличку, вмурованную сверху в каменное основание.

Обращает на себя внимание кажущаяся неразбериха в названиях. С одной стороны в списке ЮНЕСКО пункт носит название Meschkanzi. При этом деревня, давшая ему имя, называется Мешкониц. На литовском языке это тоже выглядит и звучит иначе. А дело в том, что во время создания дуги деревня официально именовалась в русской транслитерации Мешканцы. Вот так и сохранился топоним.

В заключение стоит отметить, что данный пункт является частью спутниковой координационной системы страны (LitPOS).

17-Jun-2017 -- Lithuania is the one of the ten countries where the Struve Geodetic Arc came through. From 34 points of the UNESCO World Heritage list three points are located here. One of this trio – the point near the village of Meshkonits (Lithuanian Meškonys). This point does not belong to the main points – so called "observatories", which are only 13. I guess in some future report it's worth to tell about differences between the observatories and ordinary points of triangulation. But this point is an ordinary one.

One can get here by the road A13. The point is one kilometer from it. The coordinates are 54°56′N 25°19′E.

The wooden information board precedes the commemorated place. It tells on different languages about the Arc and its creators.

The one hundred meters further there is the subject of the story – a granite obelisk and a small stone fence behind it. The obelisk is UNESCO sign. And the fence is built around the main component of the point – a geodetic mark. There is the faded plate on the fence with the point basic information on Lithuanian.

But the mark itself can’t be seen in a usual matter. It is hidden from anyone’s eyes with a massive protective cover of iron. However if you explore the resources dedicated to the Arc you can find the mark pictures. Like for example the picture of the monument opening. The mark of the Meschkanzi point is a round brass plate built into the concrete foundation.

Noteworthy is the apparent confusion in the names. On one hand in the UNESCO list the point is called Meschkanzi. Meanwhile the village that gave name to it is called Meshkonitz. In Lithuanain it also looks and sounds different. The matter is that at the time of the Arc creation the village was officially named in Russian transliteration – Meshkantsi. So the toponym has been preserved.

In conclusion it should be noted that this point is a part of the satellite positioning system of this country.
