#1: The confluence point lies in these hills, 1.2 miles away

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

12-May-2021 -- Having completed my visit to Yellowstone National Park, I’m heading southwards. trying to visit a few more Degree Confluence Points en route. I had been looking forward to visiting this ‘forgotten’ point (last visited almost 17 years ago by John and Shane Mangus). The Manguses noted that this point lies in public land - separate from the private ranchland just to the Northwest - and that it can be accessed from a hairpin turn on County Road 4CP, at [44.02,-108.98], 1.7 miles Northeast of the point.

Unfortunately, however, when I got to Wood River Road, I found a road crew working on the road - laying new asphalt. New asphalt had just been spread over the intersection with County Road 4CP, making this intersection impassible until the road crew could finish rolling the new asphalt. Not knowing how long this might take, I gave up on taking County Road 4CP, and instead continued along Wood River Road, passing North and then Northwest of the point. At my closest point, I got 1.2 miles from the point - but unfortunately with private ranchland inbetween.

I’ll have to try to find an excuse to revisit this area sometime in the future, to make another attempt. A drone’s eye view of the area - especially the Absaroka Mountains to the West - should be spectacular.
