(visited by Joseph Kerski)

15-Sep-2022 -- As I was in Florida for the Central Florida Geographic Information Systems (GIS) conference, and then visiting three campuses supporting their use of GIS across multiple departments, a confluence visit seemed like the perfect addition to the work trip. And so, between visits to the University of Florida and the University of North Florida, this confluence point was almost right on the way. Plus it was due north of a marvelous circular lake that fills a sinkhole; a geographer's dream landform.

I had emailed the Camp Blanding wildlife refuge several times during the weeks leading up to the visit, and had received a reply back asking for my contact information. I was therefore hopeful. Yet as I approached the gates to the refuge to the north of State Highway 16 east of Starke, they were all shut and locked with nobody around to ask. I then drove to the gate of Camp Blanding, to the south, inquiring, with my confluence sign on, whether I could get access to the wildlife refuge for this leave no trace project. The guard there said no, so that was that. I then drove to the main gate to the north and took a few pictures. My closest approach was not the one pictured; it was at 2009 meters and occurred at the gate almost due south of the point.

The experience was disappointing as it would have been a fine afternoon for the trek. No wonder this point has not been visited for 21 years! But, it was field work in Florida on a fine September day, and that was still wonderful.
