04-Apr-2024 -- From Pecos, Texas, i drove northwards to revisit this Degree Confluence Point (that I had previously visited more than 14 years ago, in December 2009). The point itself is much the same as before - it lies just South of Catfish Road (which runs along the New Mexico-Texas state line), so lies barely within Texas. (Fortunately the rock cairn is no longer present.)
The big change, however, is not to the point, but to the area that surrounds it. Since 2009 (and before the Burtons’ visit in 2018) the oil fracking boom swept through this area. There are now oil processing facilities both North (i.e., in New Mexico) and South (i.e., in Texas) of the state line.
Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
