13-May-2024 -- This is the 5th out of 7 reports visiting confluence points during a one-week bicycle trip from Budapest to Podgorica. The story starts from 47°N 19°E and continues from 44°N 19°E.
There are not many confluences in central Europe that have only a single reported visit. And this one is easily reached being the closest to the capital city of Bosnia. Bosnia however, is not a top travel destination, but top when it comes to landmines.
On confluence day, I got up at 4:17 AM and started at 5 AM from my apartment in downtown Sarajevo. The very early start allowed me to escape the city before the morning rush-hour would begin. At 7:45 AM I had already cycled 50 KM and stood at the confluence which is on a meadow between the tiny villages of Demici and Medovci. Coming from Demici, the single lane road was paved. At a distance of 200 m I parked my bicycle and walked across the meadow. Unfortunately, the grass was high and very wet – so were my shoes, socks and feet for the rest of the day.
After my visit, I continued the road to Medovci, Duke and Oglavak (on gravel and mud). Then I crossed another mountain pass under very harsh conditions and reached the Neretva River valley, that took me right into the historic center of Mostar.
