(visited by Ross Finlayson)

23-Apr-2025 -- After visiting [36,-109], I was eager to visit yet another ‘forgotten’ Degree Confluence Point, visited just once before, more than 24 years ago! I continued driving north through the Navajo reservation, crossing several times between New Mexico and Arizona, finally turning westward into Arizona. I drove along the northern edge of Canyon de Chelly National Monument, and took a short detour to visit the Antelope House Overlook. (A visit to this spectacular National Monument is definitely recommended if you are in this area; in my opinion, it is worthy of National Park status.)

Continuing westward, I passed through the town of Chinle - one of the largest towns in the Navajo reservation. I eventually ended up on a long series of dirt roads, in very remote territory, with no cell phone coverage. (Fortunately, I had remembered to download offline Google Maps to my phone beforehand.)

From satellite imagery - plus the report from the previous visitors - I knew that there were some private residences on the road from the South that runs near to the point. Because of this, I instead parked at a turnoff at [35.99774,-109.99362], just 0.4 miles East of the point, and started hiking from there. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to avoid the private residences, because I discovered that a large trailer home was parked very close to the point. But I was able to pass by it without disturbing the residents, and reached the point, which lies in a small hollow (hidden from view of the trailer home). I quickly took my photos (without flying my drone) and returned to my car.

Apart from the nearby trailer home, very little about this point appears to have changed in 24 years, as my North/East/South/West photos look very similar to those from the 2001 visit.

The previous visitors described this point as being in the "Hopi Reservation". I believe, however, that it actually lies within the Navajo Reservation. (The Hopi Reservation lies just a few miles to the Southwest.)
