(visited by Philippe Burtin and Antonella Burtin)
06-Sep-2024 -- N44 E7 was on my wish list for over a decade !
By a sunny september day we ultimately had the opportunity to make a try visiting what looked as a tricky CP according to previous visitors. The point is in a remote location in the french south alps.
We parked very convenientely at the D28 / D228 crossroad. Our choice was to hit the point from downhill although Rainer Mautz posted a successful visit after reaching the point from the hill top.
The first challenge is to locate the bridge crossing the Cians river while hoping that the bridge is still there after the flooding of 2023. Walking down the road we found a dust road track at 120 meters from the crossroad. This track was open and led us to the bridge. The bridge was also open ; it didn't look in great shape but some maintenance had be done recently and a few boards have been replaced.
Once the river crossed we found our way up hiking through an ancient olive tree plantation poorly maintained ; the whole area looked as an abandonned farmland.
We hiked up for 20 minutes with no difficulties. At approximately 100m from the point we got into serious bushwaking with the slope getting always steeper until the vegetation opened on a wall like rock slab. Hiking any further on this almost vertical rock looked very hazardous and we stopped our try at more or less 75 meters from the actual point as given by oiur GPS but the actual distance on the vertical rock should be much longer.
Back at our car we noticed that the point is actually visible from the crossroad (see general view - picture 1). |
