20-Jun-2025 -- This confluence lies in 200m of water in the middle of the Ionian ‘inner sea’. Although we would not be the first to claim the spot, we were excited about the prospect of being the first to swim on it. We were several days into a 2-week trip aboard our 46-foot ‘bareboat’ catamaran ‘My Naughty Spirit’. On the evening before the confluence attempt we anchored off the southeast end of Kefalonia/Cephalonia. As we departed our anchorage next morning we were greeted by a gentle sea breeze. With full sail hoisted and Maria at the helm, skipper and crew each readied themselves to be the first to exclaim ‘All zeros!’ on their respective phone apps. But then, typical for these morning waters, our breeziness turned to becoming becalmed. Engines on. And no problem, as calm condition was what we wanted for our swimfluence! Glassy water ahead and Maria steered us right to within metres of the spot. After a bit of fore-ing and aft-ing on the engines we had our zeros and our confluence (might have been Rosie or Mo who won the chocolate frog). And then the swim. Deep blue bliss. And, I should add, with My Naughty Spirit obediently drifting lazily close by. We closed off a fabulous little expedition with a long tack to Zakynthos in a gathering 20-knot westerly. Real beaut.
