Planning for this confluence began years ago, given the ease access from Bogotá and the apparent closeness of the main road. Despite not being a first visit, we mounted a visiting party with Martha Lucia Amador and Javier Buitrago, our friends from Bogotá.

Once the five of us met (Maria Eugenia, Esteban and Juan Sebastián) started the journey several miles south, we left the city heading for Zipaquirá around 8:00 in the morning. We took the Autopista Norte, as usual very congested and slow. Just before Zipaquirá, we arrived to the gates of an industrial park, where the confluence was supposedly located. However, we failed in our attempt to gain access to the park, because it was heavily guarded and we didn’t have a formal appointment with somebody inside, despite reassuring the guards that we’d only be in for a few minutes.

We decided to approach the confluence from another point, so we drove a mile through an unpaved road, parked next to a local farm and started walking. But the bushes were too thick, the slope very steep and we couldn’t move forward, we only managed to be 170 m from the target. We aborted the plan and returned to the car.

A final, very small road was the remaining option to approach the point. We drove 2.5 km on a very narrow strip, full of mud and water. After the car couldn’t go forward, we got out and started walking, we were “only” 450m away from the confluence.

Several cows were rummaging the field, it was very wet and we had to jump several fences, but we managed to reach the exact point of the confluence at 11:45, right in front of the industrial park we couldn’t access earlier. We took the required pictures, cheered in celebration and started the way back. We reached Zipaquirá soon afterwards, where we had a nice lunch at a local restaurant and took the opportunity to visit the Catedral de Sal, one of the main touristic attractions of Colombia. This was our 15th confluence visits in the country.

La planeación de esta confluencia la veníamos realizando desde hace mucho tiempo atrás, dada la cercanía con Bogotá y la aparente facilidad para llegar por carretera. A pesar de que ya la habían visitado, planeamos una visita con nuestros amigos residentes en Bogotá, Javier Buitrago y Martha Lucia Amador.

Salimos de Bogotá con rumbo a Zipaquirá, Juan Sebastián Vélez, María Eugenia Hurtado y Esteban Vélez a las 8:00 del a 10 de mayo. Tras recoger al resto del equipo (Martha y Javier), salimos de Bogotá por la Autopista Norte, como siempre, muy congestionada por alto tráfico vehicular. Justo antes de entrar a Zipaquirá nos desviamos esperando encontrar el polígono industrial, el sitio cercano a la confluencia. Sin embargo, no nos permitieron ingresar por no tener la autorización correspondiente pese a nuestros esfuerzos por persuadirlos de que la estancia duraría pocos minutos.

Salimos buscando otra vía rural que nos acercara desde la parte trasera del parque industrial, y así llegamos a una finca donde dejamos el vehículo y procedemos a buscar un camino que nos condujera al lugar, pero encontramos un monte lleno de rastrojo y arbustos con púas que nos impidieron avanzar y decidimos abandonar esta vía por riesgosa y empinada. Continuamos en el vehículo y el mapa nos muestra otro pequeño camino, y recorremos 2.5 km en terreno en tierra muy estrecho y pantanoso por el invierno Dejamos el vehículo al lado de un potrero enfangado y el GPS nos indicó que estábamos a 450 metros del punto 5ºN 74ºW.

Avanzamos por el potrero donde había vacas lecheras y tras enlodarnos los zapatos, finalmente llegamos al punto cero y celebramos con alegría, para luego proceder a tomar fotografías como testimonio de la confluencia. Esto ocurre a las 11:45 y luego nos dirigimos a celebrar con un buen almuerzo en un restaurante de Zipaquirá, donde poco después aprovechamos para visitar la majestuosa Catedral de sal subterránea, que es una de las principales atracciones turísticas de Colombia. Con esta, completamos nuestra decimoquinta visita a confluencias en Colombia.
