23-Jul-2025 -- This was the third of five Kansas confluences today traveling eastward along the state’s northern border.
The dirt road network heading south and east out of Bloomington NE got increasingly worse until reaching the border “road” just north of the confluence, where grass was growing out of the middle of the sandy, rocky two-track. I was thankful to have 4WD. I parked at 1:38pm and was at the confluence a few minutes later, which sits on a gentle slope facing SSW. It was fallow land that had somewhat recently been grazed judging by the fossilized cowpies. The hot, 91°F wind was howling out of the south, and the grasshoppers positively soared on this breeze.
Back in the car ten minutes later, I discovered several small spiders on my leg as well as a biting ant. I also discovered, continuing eastward, that this road ends into newly-private property at the intersection of 10 Rd and E Rd, which would explain the lack of traffic (see gate picture). I backtracked a mile, making my way out the way I’d come in and heading off to the next confluence east.
