  41°N 35°E (visit #6)

#1: The confluence point from 10 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

17-Sep-2025 -- Today was the last day of hiking with Mangnolia before she takes a taxi to Amasya Airport early tomorrow morning at 6:30. So, it’s time to say goodbye again . But there’s also great news: Mangnolia postponed her minor ear surgery to join me for another two weeks before winter . She’s planning to fly to Georgia on 23 October.

Today turned into another very long hiking day, which I extended even further by visiting a confluence point. The intersection of 41°N and 35°E was only one kilometre off our route in a small village. This point was very conveniently located for a visit, right next to a path. I’m always amazed at how many of these points are situated directly along roads or trails. Either the global network of paths is that dense, or perhaps points near paths are simply visited more often. Since I started my journey at almost 10°W, I’ve now walked nearly 45° east—that’s one-eighth of the way around the Earth!

After the visit I was just 2 km behind Mangnolia, who opted for skipping the point and continuing the hike. Being 2 km behind means that it took me 20 minutes to visit the confluence and get back on our track. But it took me two hours until I catched up with her.

Today we reached the small town with the amusing name Gümüşhacıköy. Finding a nice farewell dinner at an upscale restaurant isn’t really an option in Türkiye. Even in larger cities, it would be difficult. Here, enjoyment seems to be all about speed. There isn’t a single restaurant where you’d wait more than five minutes for your food. Today, we went to a pizzeria that serves both classic pizzas and cheese-free options, as well as wood-fired pita.
