(visited by John Dag Hutchison)

08-Oct-2025 -- The visit was not successful, but I leave a short report to make others aware of problems that may arise. Nakhichevan is little known to most Norwegians, and I only became aware of it when I noticed an unvisited confluence point there. As a small Azerbaijani exclave, it proved surprisingly difficult to reach, flights were rare and often full, requiring a full week’s stay just to attempt a single confluence point. Once there, I found the region rich in history and scenery: Mount Ararat across the border, a monument to Noah’s grave, ancient fortresses, caves, hiking trails, and even a salt-mine health resort. I stayed with a local host who also guided me to possible routes towards N39E46, near Kalaki and Dirnis, the nearest villages. During our exploratory trip the day before the planned visit to the confluence point, local police noticed our presence and contacted my guide, warning against visiting an area only a few kilometres from the Armenian border, a sensitive area in other words. The visit had to be dropped. I later learned it’s also possible to leave but not enter, Nakhichevan overland to/from Turkey
