W 20 lat :)

24-Aug-2026 – The day has finally come to satisfy the formal requirements of the CP regulations. After more than 20 years, I visited the 51°N 21°E confluence point again, this time solely to take the regulation-required photos of the place.
I parked the car—a completely different one this time compared to the last :), but in the very same spot. From there, it was a walk of over 1 km. The road still had remnants of cobblestone, turning into gravel further along. The layout of the paths through the forest has also changed a bit. At latitude 51°N, I turned into the woods. Unfortunately, the forest has also changed significantly. From my perspective, for the worse. Walking off-path was much more difficult than 20 years ago; it is now heavily overgrown with dense bushes full of prickly blackberries or something similar.
To make matters worse, as I scrambled through the dense forest following the jumping GPS readings, I started circling around, unnecessarily adding extra distance to an already difficult trek. As a result, tired and sweaty, I finally reached the spot where the GPS on both my eTrex and phone stabilized exactly on the point.
The return trip through the forest went smoothly without any wandering. Once back in the car, I realized it was still too early to head home. So, I decided to visit the Bartek Oak again after more than 60 years.
Well, because of that, the trip turned out to be doubly rewarding. For this, I can only warmly thank and greet Grzesiek Chyła and the entire Degree Confluence Project team, as this was probably my very last trip as part of it... thus wrapping up the documentation of all land-based DCP points in Poland. In 20 years :)
