20-Sep-2026 -- From Asheville, North Carolina, where I have been based for a couple of days, I decided to make a day trip to visit two adjacent Degree Confluence Points in neighboring South Carolina. Driving South from Asheville, I entered the delightfully-named Transylvania County and passed through the town of Brevard, then drove through a heavily forested rural area, to visit Upper Whitewater Falls, which is just north of the South Carolina state line.
I then crossed the state line into South Carolina, and turned onto Bad Creek Road. Remarkably, the Degree Confluence Point lies on this (paved) road. Being careful to avoid the nearby overhead high-voltage power lines, I launched my drone from the road to view the point from above, and to explore part of the nearby Lake Jocassee. Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
Afterwards, I drove down to the visitor overlook (to photograph Lake Jocassee once again), then drove up to the parking lot for the Foothills Trail to get a drone’s-eye photograph of Lower Whitewater Falls.
