30-Sep-2000 -- A drive down the Texas coast on Galveston
Island south from the City of Galveston on a beautiful day took me to the closest
approach for the N29 W95 confluence. The actual confluence is several miles
off shore so I guess we will have to count this as an attempt.
As you can see from the photos this is a popular spot for vacation homes on
the beach. Because this is the farthest spot from the city of Galveston there is still
some undeveloped land. Come and get yours while it lasts.
The San Louie Pass bridge connects the southern end of Galveston Island to
the mainland of Texas. Hurricane Alicia passed directly over this spot when it came
ashore in 1983 with winds over 100 miles per hour. It took over a year to clean up
all the debris from that storm.
