24-Nov-2000 -- While visiting relatives in
Springfield for Thanksgiving, I decided to make an attempt at N44xW123
as the previous (currently posted) attempt had fallen a few hundred feet
short. Armed with the previous visitors information, I easily located
the area and decided to take a more proactive role in achieving my goal.
The confluence is located on private property, so I parked the Jeep in
the empty driveway and knocked on the door of the property owner.
Multiple attempts to make contact failed. I assume the house was vacant
due to it being the Thanksgiving weekend. I walked across the street to
a mobile home park and talked to it's owner. I explained the project in
layman's terms and they said it should be OK to "go on over".
I assured them I would make my visit hasty. With that, I followed a
trail that ran beside the property to the west until it led to a section
of the fence that was down. I stepped accross and followed my Garmin
until it gave me the reading I needed (see pic 2). The barking dogs were
a bit disconcerting but they must've been secured as they never
approached. I quickly made my exit and revisited the trailer park to let
them know I was leaving.
