29-May-2000 -- Today is a holiday (Memorial Day) and the weather
is pleasant enough for a hunt. I am on my way north across the Red River into
Oklahoma. I hope to find two confluences today.
I made my way into Bennington and using the GPS directional steering work
my way onto a gravel road heading east out of town. This is cattle country and
the area is quite pleasant to look at. Especially this year as we are actually having
a spring season without going straight from winter into summer.
The road leads me under a train trestle and out to a farmhouse. The GPS
indicates that the confluence is approximately 300 meters south of the gravel road.
I grab up my camera, compass, and GPS and prepare to explain to the owner of
my desire to explore their property for this Internet site. However no one is at home.
And as I prepare to depart a car pulls up into the driveway. The lady is the niece of
the owner and is eyeing me cautiously as I explain my purpose for being on the
property. I am afraid I may have insulted her when I asked if she had heard of the
Internet. I will have to work on my introductions!
In any case she granted me permission and I set off across the pasture. It is a
lovely farm and the confluence was down in a swell surrounded by lovely trees
(pecan I think) with a creek nearby. I took a few pictures and on my way out took
one looking back at the confluence site. Another successful hunt!
