26-Mar-2001 -- This was my second confluence of the day and unfortunately I ran out of time
and daylight. Still, it was a fun trip. I hope to return someday.
Perhaps the most interesting part of the trip was my stop at the one and only store in
Modena, Utah. I enjoyed a nice visit with several people who were there. They were all
very friendly and helpful. When I told them my destination, one said to me, "Why
would you want to go there?"
The road was dirt after Modena, but had been recently graded for about 8 or 9 miles. I
stopped at a convenient turnout and rode the rest of the way on my ATV. Spring run-off
had just begun. There were several stream crossings.
After about three more miles the road reached a summit and I was in Hamlin Valley. I
could see no buildings. Two pickup trucks passed me during the trip.
I left the main road, traveling north and west. I was finally turned back by snow, mud
and failing daylight. I was within 0.5 minute of the confluence. It should be an easy trip in
another few weeks.
