04-Apr-2001 -- It was a warm, overcast day as I headed out for my second confluence. After passing through the small village of Mendes and narrowly missing a dog whose mission in life seemed to be to attack any vehicle which approached him, I neared my destination. I found myself shortly on a dirt road, which according to my GPS was very close to the confluence. I pulled in the driveway of the nearest house, and was almost immediately greeted by a large black dog. I waited in the car for a few moments, weighing my options. Presently, the owners of the house came out and assured me that though he looked mean, Doc was quite friendly. After exiting the vehicle and approaching him, I found this to be the case. I explained to Gene what I was doing, and asked if he would mind if I walked out in the field next to the house. "Go right ahead," he replied. Some five hundred feet from the house, I found the confluence. It lies just on the other side of the fence which separates the field from the dirt road. Gene walked out and took a picture of me; I returned the favor by taking one of him ("I'm famous!" he exclaimed after I clicked the shutter). I thanked him as we walked back to my car (Doc walked by my side, begging for attention), wrote down the coordinates of the confluence and the address of the Website, and, with a wave to he and Doc, drove off.
