#1: Hazy view of the confluence area.

(visited by Olli-Pekka Savela and Olli Suutela)

14-Jun-2001 -- Thursday June 14, 2001: Visit at 10:45am

After staying overnight in Vaasa (at Olli's cousins place, thanks again Lauri!), we headed towards Laihia to first one of the seven confluences we were determined to visit.

Our map guided us to a forest road from where the confluence was less than 600 metres away, according to the GPS. Time to put hiking boots on!

Short walk across the muddy fields into the woods (which was quite thick in few places) took us to the spot, where a swarm of blood-sucking things greeted us in a feeding frenzy. Mosquitos!

There was several large boulders in the area, of which one can be seen in the picture. We left quite quickly due to lack of proper defense (this was to be remedied later) against the forementioned nuisance, it was quite evident the summer so far had been conveniently wet for mosquitos to breed happily and fill every bush along our way.
