02-Feb-2000 -- Confluence number 2; Punxsutawney on Groundhog
Day. We couldn't resist.
We're not as crazy as the 12,000 or so people who showed up to watch the
ceremony at dawn, though! We set off at mid-morning, after some argument
between our two routing systems. Delorme gets some street names wrong, but it
picked a better route. The Carin has voice output and nags you, so we talked
back.
We arrived at the confluence a little after 1pm. Wow, what a beautiful oak
tree! Picture #1 is taken looking ESE from the confluence at the tree. Picture
#2 is looking NNE back toward the road, you can see the van we travelled in
and our tracks across the field, looking for the confluence. Picture #3 is the
obligatory GPS shot; and Picture #4 is us in front of the tree.
Then we headed for Punxsutawney and the celebration. By the time we got
there, there wasn't anything to see on Gobbler's Knob (where the celebration
was held) so Picture #5 is us on the way there. And finally, Picture #6 shows
how seriously we take this project :-)
