16-Aug-2001 --
On 16th Aug. Tillman Fuss and myself left the home in Taormina. We took the
Highwoay Route A18 to Catania, thence we went on the Highway Route A19 to
Palermo, crossed the town and continued on A29 to Balestrate Exit. From
there we went to State Road SS113 and stopped the car exactly
when crossing 13°E, about 2,5 km East of Alcamo. Latitude was still about 700 metres
below 38°N.
There were a few houses on the scene, and the topography seemed to be easy.
Proceeding exactly North on some freshly plowed fields we arrived at a huge
vineyard full of grapes.
Shortly after walking through the rows between the wine plants we hit the
point, (see also picture #4), fortunately just on the pole of a
barbed wire fence around another vineyard.
The prevailing tree is the pine (pinus pinea).
It was a nice excursion through Western Sicily and a point easy to make.
