24-Aug-2001 -- I found 19°S 140°E conveniently located right beside the Burke Development Road. It was only 80 metres off the road and I was able to drive right up to it for a change. The vegetation there is stunted eucalypts, pretty typical for the Gulf Lowlands which is a large region of flat country around the southern edge of the Gulf of Carpentaria.
My journey there from 20°S 140°E was along dusty tracks through three large grazing properties. I stopped at Kamillaroi to find out which of the unsigned tracks was the road north. The property has an area of 265000 hectares and carries 25000 cattle. Stopping for a rest at the Leichhardt River, I saw four crocodiles, one of them only after I almost tripped over it on the bank.
