 (visited by Peter Schrock) 06-Oct-2001 -- Occasion: Weekend camping trip to San Miguel Island in the Channel Islands National Park, 6 - 8 October 2001. The panoramic photo was taken a few minutes after leaving the dock at Santa Rosa Island. We talked the skipper into indulging us and taking a wide loop out of the harbor on our way to the next island. Once we explained the project to him he was quite amenable to the idea and set his onboard navigation system to the exact coordinates we were seeking. He eased the boat to a stop right on top of the confluence and gave us time to snap pictures of his navigation system (see photo) as well as a panorama of the area. A few minutes later a blue whale blew right in front of our boat and we followed his track for about 20 minutes before continuing on. Not a bad way to spend an October morning... |
