#1: Confluence area, direction northwest, with mountain SUORKE 366 meters above sea level.

(visited by Lars Eriksson)

31-Oct-2001 -- The 31th of october I decided to visit the confluence 66°N 20°E, approximatly 120 kilometers by car from BODEN where I live.

I drove along road 356 to ÄLVSBYN where I turned into road 374 leading to JOKKMOKK. 40 kilometers northwest of ÄLVSBYN, the road passes STORFORSEN. This is one of the longest and wildest rapids in northern europe.

It is most spectacular in june when all the melted snow from the mountains come roaring down on it´s way to the sea.

This time of the year there isn´t that much water, but it´s still a great view. I stayed for a cup of coffee and took some pictures. After this short break I carried on northwest along road 374. On the map I had found a little forest road which seemed to take me close to the confluence.

This type of road isn't a public road, so there is no snowclearence if the forest company don´t use it. When I turned in to the road, it was covered by 15 centimeters of snow. Still there was no problems to drive beacause of the wintertyres that we always use in winter in this part of Sweden.

I passed a crossroad where there was a roadsign pointing in the direction of ÄLVSBORG. I was on the right way! After approximatly 20 kilometers driving along the forest road, the GPS alerted me that I was approaching the confluence. I only had to walk less then 100 meters to find it!

The sky was overcast with a light fall of snow. Temperature was -4° Celsius. I took some pictures, had another cup of coffee and enjoyed the silence at the place. Then it was time to go home beacause this time of the year and at this latitude, it gets dark at 16:00. This was the first confluence that I have visit, but I´m sure that there will be more "confluence hunting" for me!
