This is the fifth time that we look for a confluence, and fortunately find it. Now there are only 708 to be found, at all. Each confluence has got its particular story. Besides, this one has its particularities, too.

September, 29th, 2001. Saturday, and the Walking Group met early in the morning in order to look for this confluence at parallel 15. At 10:30AM we arrived at a gas station near a small town, called Vila Boa. There, we analyzed the map. We could choose going to the only farm on the map (Farm Bagé).Then, we would ask for the authorization to go as far as the confluence. However, there were two problems; At first, the walking distance would be too short. Why would we drive 120km to walk only 2km? There would be no fun. What if we did not get the authorization?

Since we are a Walking Group, we decided for another choice: we would have to drive through the highway as far as the nearest point. Then, we would have to find a safe place to leave our cars parked, and then start walking...Fortunately, we found another gas station, so that we could leave our cars parked in a garage bult for trucks. And then the walking just started. The GPS was pointing right to a very high mountain. A good confluence is supposed to be hard, too! Distance in a straight line: 6km.

Suddenly, we entered a reforestation area with native trees, but of only one specie. Afterwards, an even stranger view was seen. A sequence of small hills like cartons of eggs turned upside down. Each of them has a diameter of 1,5m and there were deep routes among them that has a depth of 40cm each. We could walk over the hills or around them.

Then, we were at the cerrado (Brazilian Savanna), going through several farm fences. Since there were no difficulties, we went directly to the confluence. It was in a pasture, which was near a fence and a low wooden farm gate. We fixed the mark and took some pictures, including the traditional group photo.

I was a bit disappointed, for the hills were still in front of us and I bet the confluence would be there. We went over the hills in order to look for any waterfalls. However, we did not find any, due to the fact that the weather is dry and so are the small rivers. Fortunately, we found many multicoloured flowers. Cerrado is the only native forest, in which there are flowers during the whole year. In addition, they are always different among them.

When we were going to the confluence, I planted some seeds. In the future, they will probably become cerrado trees. We marked the points where the seeds had been planted with the GPS, and I will go back there within 5 years.

One more confluence found. It was the longest walking of all the others we had done: 19km.

We wished it could have rained, but it had not. The rain time has not started there yet, as in Brasília. When it starts raining, it will be a very interesting place.

Esta é nossa quinta confluência. Agora faltam apenas 708 ainda para serem caçadas. Cada confluência tem uma história própria para contar. E esta também tem as suas particularidades.

O Grupo de Caminhadas se reuniu logo cedo, no sábado 29 de setembro de 2001, para caçar esta confluência do paralelo 15.

Às 10:30hs chegamos perto de da cidadezinha de Vila Boa. Paramos em um posto de gasolina, e estudamos o mapa. Tínhamos a opção de ir à sede da única fazenda assinalada no mapa (Faz.Bagé), pedir autorização e ir até a confluência. Esta opção tinha dois problemas: A primeira, é que a caminhada ficaria muito curta. Rodar 120km para caminhar uns 2km simplesmente não tem graça. E se não obtivéssemos a autorização?

Como nós somos um grupo de caminhadas, votamos pela segunda opção: Ir pela rodovia até o ponto mais próximo, e achar um lugar legal para deixar os carros e caminhar.... Demos sorte, achamos um outro posto de gasolina, deixamos os carros em uma garagem de caminhões, e colocamos o pé no barro. O GPS apontava diretamente para uma serra bem alta. Essa confluência boa é assim, difícil! Distância em linha reta, 6km.

Logo de cara, entramos em uma área de reflorestamento com árvores nativas, mas de uma única espécie. Em seguida, veio uma paisagem ainda mais estranha. Um mar de pequenos morrinhos, como caixas de ovos de cabeça para baixo. Cada morrinho tinha aproximadamente 1,5m de diâmetro, e entre eles caminhos fundos de uns 30cm de profundidade. Ou caminhava-se por cima dos morrinhos, ou ia-se fazendo volta entre eles.

Depois caímos no cerrado (savana brasileira), passando por inúmeras cercas de fazenda. Como não havia grandes obstáculos, fomos diretamente para a confluência. Ela caiu em um pasto, próxima a uma cerca e uma porteira de madeira. Fixamos o marco e tiramos as fotos necessárias, inclusive a foto tradicional do grupo. Fiquei um pouco decepcionado, a serra ainda estava à nossa frente, e eu apostava (e torcia) que a confluência cairia sobre ela. Resolvemos dar um pulinho até a serra para ver se lá tinha algum rio ou cachoeira. Não encontramos cachoeiras, inclusive por que estamos na época da seca, e os pequenos rios estão secos. No caminho encontramos diversas flores multicoloridas. O Cerrado é a única floresta nativa que tem flores o ano inteiro, e sempre diferentes ao longo do ano.

No caminho de ida, aproveitei para plantar mudas de árvores de cerrado que foram colhidas em outras caminhadas. Marcamos os pontos no GPS, e já marquei compromisso de visitá-las daqui a 5 anos.

Mais uma confluência caçada, e com a particularidade de ter sido a mais longa de todas as nossas caminhadas, 19km no total.

Torcemos o tempo todo para cair uma chuva, mas ela não veio. Aliás, naquela região ainda não começou a chover como em Brasília. Quando estiver chovendo vai ser uma região muito interessante.
