10-Jun-2000 -- Eastern Oregon is filled with heavy,
rainforst-like vegetation crisscrossed with forest service and access
roads. Highway 126 took us close to the site, but we fell into a typical
GPS pitfall: we were on the wrong side of a very large river, and had to
do some serious backtracking and try several inroads before we found a
way to get close to the site. Soon we arrived at a point in the road
where the GPS distance was increasing rather than decreasing, so we knew
it was time to get out and hike it. These photos are taken from the
site, accurate to within about 100 feet. With SA recently turned off,
the accuracy was pretty good, but the dense vegetation made sat tracking
sketchy. As you can see from the photos, the vegetation was REALLY
dense at the confluence, so all our pictures came out looking like the
ones you see here.
