#1: Looking north

(visited by Andrew Heath and Nic Heath)

13-Jan-2002 -- When we reached this confluence point N18 W67, we found exactly what we had predicted; it was in the middle of a field and behind gates that were padlocked. After surveying the area and looking for other roads that would bring us closer to the confluence point, we decided that there was no choice but to seek the permission of the land owners.

On the opposite side of the highway, there were two gentlemen visiting about 75 meters behind another locked gate. After waving to them, they got in their jeep and came towards us. Regretfully I had forgotten to print out the Spanish version of the mission statement from the confluence.org website. Luckily one of the men spoke good English and so I explained our mission and requested permission to take some photos in the field approximately one kilometer from our current position. After exchanging some common interests, he granted me permission and offered to unlock the gate so that we could drive within about 100 meters of the confluence. I took a quick picture of them as seen in picture #6.

On Picture #7 Nic is opening the gate to the field that contained the confluence point. It is located about 100 meters into the trees where the red dot is on the right side of the picture. This gives an overview as to where it is located since it is hard to see much from the confluence point itself.

Next we are off to N18 W66.
