24-Dec-2001 -- After the successful visit to 28S 29E I thought I would try to get to 29S 30E, as it seemed to be not too far off the N3 on my way down to Durban.
We turned off the N3 at Estcourt and took the first road that seemed to be going in the right direction. This led about 12 km north of the Confluence towards Weenen, but any attempt to get closer was blocked by the Weenen Nature Reserve. The Confluence seemed to be on the far side of the reserve though, and we kept on driving, turning right whenever we would have a chance.
After passing through Weenen, this route took us along bad dirt roads through traditional Zulu areas, but there was no obvious way of getting any closer to the Confluence. We eventually passed some 12 km south of the Confluence, having driven right around it. It seems that a day's hiking would be required to approach it from the South, unless some way can be found to approach it through the Weenen Nature Reserve.
