#1: Tripod at N43-W97 Looking N-River in Far Backround.

(visited by Roger Kehm and Glen Conradson)

20-Feb-2002 -- The day was a very unusual one for the latter part of February in South Dakota. The whole winter season had been mild to the point of breaking records. The temperature was in the low 40's F, partly cloudy skies & with a NW wind at about 15 MPH. The only hint of snow was in a few very sheltered spots in ditches & small north-facing areas that the sun didn't reach. It was a fine day for Ham radio & DCP activities for 2 Ham radio operators.

We drove on gravel roads to about 900 - 1000 feet south of N43-W97--5.2 miles ESE of Wakonda, Clay County, South Dakota. It was in a level harvested corn field with the meandering & crooked Vermillion River along the west and north sides of the field.

'Twas and easy 10 minute walk in to the site, 20 minutes there documenting the location and pictures of the geography, and another 10 minutes back to the vehicle. The field was "dry and dusty"--a far cry from a more normal snowy and cold February in South Dakota.

It proved to be a productive and fun Ham radio and DCP day for Roger (KØROG) and Glen (KEØYX).

Coordinator's Note: This visit is incomplete as it doesn't meet our photo requirements.
