13-Mar-2002 -- This is the second confluence that Paul and I have done. So on this trip we decided to take all country roads to Virgil/Greenwood Kansas. 38 N & 96 W.

We left our house at 12:30 in the afternoon (Herington Kansas) heading East to Rd 2600 Ave. Turning South on 2600 Ave we drove 2 miles then turned back to the East on J Rd.

Following J Rd to Council Grove Kansas, We did have to go into Council Grove to get to the next Rd we needed. Turning on the Dunlap Rd (We took the hard top to Dunlap Kansas) our next job was to find a road that would take us to our destination.

Stopping to look at the map we found that we needed to follow the railroad tracks for about 4 miles. Then taking Rd 280 South to the Americus Rd to Americus Kansas. Leaving Americus Kansas we took Feedlot Rd South to Emporia Kansas.

Entering Emporia Kansas we had to get our bearings and find Rd. L that would take us past the airport. We found it after driving down a few unmarked Rd’s. We took L Rd South to Olpe Kansas. Going South past Olpe Kansas we turned East on Root Station Rd to Valmont Rd., turning South we headed to Hilltop Kansas. Then to Virgil Kansas, We never did see Hilltop Kansas, drove right into Virgil Kansas.

Now came the time to watch the GPS closely none of the roads were named. We got close to where we needed to be to mark the confluence, but had to find someone to give us permission to go out on the land. We drove around looking for a home (far and few between) Nothing but oil fields out there in that part of the country, We spotted a home and stopped to ask who’s land it was, we met the sweetest 89 year old lady. She told us who rented the pasture, and then she called them for us to see if we could walk out to mark the spot. We got permission from the Butlers to walk out into the field so we headed back out to the pasture.

4 hours 23 minutes 103 miles from home we were there marking the spot 38 N and 96 W.
