01-May-2002 -- Started this attempt with all the expectations of getting to the confluence, photographing the event, and grabbing a cold one to celebrate once we got back to San Luis Potosi. As has happened to many others, it was not meant to be.
Traveling to within 2.95 miles from the confluence wasn't a problem. Hiking to within 3/4 miles of the confluence wasn't that difficult, though it was rather hot. The two ravines and the continuously thicker vegetation made the final assault impossible this time. Next time we will start earlier, as not to be in the midday tropical sun and try to find a road that leads in from the eastern side.
