13-Jun-2002 -- Coming from the north on the mainroad E65 from Kozáni about 20 km before reaching Elassóna I turned to the west on a smaller road to the village Giannota. After having reached Giannota the GPS showed the Confluence in about 2 km to the westnorthwest and I followed the GPS along a agricultural road. Although the road got more and more grown rampant between fern, it led almost directly to the Confluence which I found to be placed on a wild meadow in an altitude of 988 m. Pics 1-4 show the view from the confluence in east, south, west and north-direction. Pic 5 shows a tortoise that I found just a few meters away from the Confluence.
Tortoises are rather common animals in Greece but this one was one of the biggest (shell-length 25 cm) I ever got to see there. Pic 6 shows the GPS-display at the Confluence; unfortunately the flash went off, so I had to overwork the contrast of the photograph a little to make it better legible. Pic 7 shows the car in about 60 m distance to the Confluence on the obviously rarely used road leading back to Giannota; You can also see the road on the low left of pic 3 with the car hidden behind the bush. Unfortunately the sky was rather cloudy on that day otherwise you maybe would have seen Mt. Olymp (the highest mountain of Greece (2917 m) and the mythical residence of the ancient gods) in about 25 km distance to the East.
